The Catholic Documentation and Research Centre (KADOC) studies the development of the Catholic community in Flanders in the 19th and 20th century. It was founded in 1976 as an interfaculty centre of the Catholic University of Leuven (K.U.Leuven) in accord with the Belgian bishops and the most important Catholic organisations. In 1985 the KADOC was recognised by the Flemish Community as an archive and documentation centre governed by private law.
As its name suggests, the KADOC has two main areas of interest. On the one hand the Centre collects documentation. Well-nigh everything relating to Catholic life in Flanders from 1794 onwards, in a Belgian and international context, from both a historical and contemporary point of view, is kept here and made available to the public. On the other hand the KADOC carries out research on the basis of the documentation collected, and encourages research by others.Protestant Churches
